Installation Report: Console Coin Holder
Project Description
I was a bit surprised to see a cigarette ash tray included with the Tundra since
smoking is on the decline but at least they didn't waste valuable in-dash space
like all the older vehicles do. Even if I was a smoker then I sure
wouldn't smoke inside my new Tundra, especially not with the dark dash, light
carpets, and rich leather seats.
If any passenger ever tried to light up in my truck then I would promptly spray them with my
fire extinguisher, so the ash cup was the first thing
removed from the Tundra when I got back from the dealership. Once I removed the ash cup then the console
looked bare and I still needed a convenient coin holder. I came across this product
a week or so later and my problem was solved.

Parts & Cost
- I found this BEL product for just $3.94 in the Walmart automotive aisle. I tossed the package
out after opening it though so if someone buys this then please send me the UPC code or model number and I will post it here.
Tools
(just the major items, not a complete list)
- None
Install Process
- Remove the factory stickers including the UPC on bottom and the cheesy
plastic BEL logo which was glued on top between the nickel and dime slots.
- Clean the bottom exterior of the change cup, the bottom center of the
console cup holder, and the former BEL logo location with rubbing alcohol and let it dry.
- Attach a 1" square piece of soft velcro to the bottom exterior of the change
cup and the bottom center of the console cup holder.
- Press the change cup down into place firmly and hold it for 15 seconds, then let
it sit unused for a few days until the velcro glue sets up really well.
- Now you can remove the top portion of the change cup and the bottom
portion will remain inside the center console to open the cup in half and reveal a secret
internal compartment.
Total Time: ~10 minutes
Comments
- More Money: The secret bottom compartment is perfect for
hiding a few bills, spare key, spare remote, jewelry, or whatever. This has
proven convenient when I run short at the drive through or gas station and
don't feel like running to the ATM or using my debit card.
- Imitations: A few weeks after buying this I saw the exact
same thing at a Dollar Tree store - guess how much? Well I was going
to grab a bunch of them up and give them away to TS forum members but then I checked
closer and they were not the BEL brand. The plastic was much thinner,
springs weaker, and the plastic seams were roughly molded so it was obviously a
cheap knock-off of a product that was cheap to begin with. Fork over the extra
couple of bucks at Walmart and save yourself the headache.
