Installation Report:  Dog Seat

Project Description
Like many Tundra owners, my wife and I are animal lovers and we have a small dog that loves to go for rides in the truck.  In fact Biskit is actually the true owner of the truck; I am just the operator and chief mechanic.  The center console is wide and deep enough for Biskit but he tends to slide off too easily and he prefers a cushioned seat just like the rest of us.  We tried small blankets and pillows but they weren't large enough and they would just slip off.  I went searching for something thick enough to be comfortable, big enough for Biskit to sleep in, sized just right for the center console, and with a non-slip bottom.  We found just the thing at a local Walgreens and only had to make one small modification for the perfect solution.

Parts & Cost

  1. One round dog bed with a cushioned floor, found in the clearance section of Walgreens, $10.00, or you can get them anywhere for $20-$30+.
  2. One 16" piece of rubber non-skid mat, available at any hardware, craft store, or dollar store, $1.00.

Tools
(just the major items, not a complete list)

  1. Scissors
  2. Contact cement

Install Process

  1. Flip the dog bed over and lay the rubber mat on top of the bottom side.
  2. Trim the rubber mat to fit the bottom without hanging over the sides.
  3. Glue the rubber mat to the bottom of the dog bed with a thin spot of contact cement in the middle and on each of the corners.
  4. Let the dog bed dry for several days in a well ventilated outdoor area to remove the fumes from the adhesive.

Total Time:  ~15 minutes
